How Natalie became Natalie Portman
Natalie Hershlag was 13 when she landed her first film role, in Léon: The Professional (1994). For the credits she took her paternal grandmother's maiden name, Portman, and kept it for her career.
Many websites say she was born "Neta-Lee Hershlag". Portman herself has said her name was always Natalie and that she doesn't know where "Neta-Lee" came from, so we treat that claim as unverified.
